Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL-The Joliet JackHammers have signed former White Sox RHP Carlos Castillo to a 2008 contract. Castillo will be the JackHammers starting pitcher for tonight's 5:05 p.m. game between Joliet and Kansas City at Silver Cross Field. To make room for Castillo on the roster, the JackHammers placed LHP Brian Forystek on the inactive list.
"Castillo is someone I am very familiar with," said JackHammers manager Wally Backman. "I had him with the White Sox in 2003 at Birmingham (Double A, Southern League). He is a solid pitcher who can get guys out."
Castillo played with the White Sox in parts of three seasons (1997-1999). His best year on the south side of Chicago was in 1998 when he was 6-4 with a 5.11 ERA with 54 appearances. He also appeared with the Boston Red Sox in the 2001 season.
The Miami, FL native was originally selected by the White Sox in the third round of the 1994 draft. He played with Bridgeport and Long Island of the independent Atlantic League in 2008. Castillo was 1-1 with a 3.24 ERA at his most recent stop in Long Island.
