Jackets Shutout Braves for Seventh Straight Win

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (18-15) completed the four game sweep of the Rome Braves (11-21) Tuesday night with a 7-0 win. Starter Madison Bumgarner struck out a career high 10 batters for the win while Garrett Baker drove in three runs to lead the offense as Augusta recorded its seventh straight win and first shutout of the season.

Augusta plated all the runs it needed in the third inning when Nick Noonan broke a scoreless tie with a two-out RBI single for a 1-0 GreenJackets lead. Baker followed up with a two-run homer to left field giving Augusta a 3-0 lead. It was Baker's second home run of the season.

Bumgarner (1-3) allowed just three hits and one walk over six innings worked. The Braves only had three base runners reach second base all night and none made it to third base.

Joe Paterson, Waldis Joaquin and Andrew De La Garza each worked a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout for Augusta.

Brock Bond extended his team leading hit streak to 17 games in the fifth inning with an RBI base hit to give Augusta a 6-0 lead.

Andrew Davis had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the GreenJackets and Baker collected his third RBI of the night in the sixth inning with an RBI triple.

Jeff Locke (1-3) recorded the loss for the Braves working 4.2 innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits.

The GreenJackets begin a four game series Wednesday night against the 2007 South Atlantic League Champions, the Columbus Catfish. It's a rematch of the 2007 SAL Southern Division Championship Series in which the Catfish beat the GreenJackets on their way to their first SAL Title. Augusta sends right-hander T.J. Brewer (2-2, 4.09) to the mound while Columbus counters with lefty Glenn Gibson (1-4, 6.51). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Augusta is three games over the .500 mark, the high water mark for the season.

The GreenJackets have won seven straight games for the first time since June 7-13, 2007

Baker was a double short of the cycle. Baker was 3-for-3 with a walk in his first at bat of the night.
