Jackals win game one 10-0
September 4, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
Darryl Brinkley led a 16-hit attack with three hits, including a solo homer, in a 10-0 victory over Brockton in game one Northeast League Playoffs at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.
Joel Bennett (1-0), Ben Grezlovski and Matt Powell combined on the eight-hit shutout for New Jersey. Bennett allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five.
The Jackals jumped on Rox starter Greg Salvevold in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. John Anderson, who was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, lead off the game with a double to center field. Two batters later, Brinkley singled home Anderson for a 1-0 lead. Consecutive singles by Kevin Grijak and Travis Bailey loaded the bases and Scott Samuels walked to force in a run.
"It was a good win for us. Joel kept us in the ball game and we swung the bat real well right out of the first inning," Jackals manager Joe Calfapietra said. "We swung the bats real well through the lineup and that's what we need to keep doing because that is a very good ball club on the other side of the field."
Kevin Grijak also had three hits for New Jersey and Brinkley finished with three RBI.
Game two will be played Friday at Yogi Berra Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
