
Jackals Stand Out At All-Star Game

The Elmira Jackals All-Stars, representing the team at the UHL's mid-season classic did more than just show up for the contest, they contributed.
Center Randy Murphy scored the Eastern Conference All-Stars first goal of the game at 12:51 of the first period from Port Huron's Brent Gretzky and Adirondack's Hugo Belanger to cut into the West's lead 2-1.
In the second period with the score tied, defenseman Cal Benazic set up the go-ahead goal, as he fed Belanger for the strike at 4:13, a lead the East would not relinquish.
Peter Aubry the starting goaltender for the East, performed admirably, getting the victory while playing the first 31:18 of the game, stopping 21 of 23 shots (including all nine he faced in the second period).
Defenseman Trevor Burgess was voted by the fans as one of the starters to the Eastern Conference All-Stars and finished the game with an even rating at the blue line. The Jackals other All-Star forward Greg Koehler did not play in the game due to his extended call up with the San Antonio Rampage of the America Hockey League.
The Eastern Conference All-Stars would blow into the lead with five goals in the second period on their way to an 8-3 win. Port Huron's Michel Beausoleil was the game's MVP for notching a hat trick, and the game set a new UHL All-Star Game Attendance Record with 8,119 fans at Fort Wayne's Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
