
Jackals Sign Second Year Forward

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today the signing of forward Kevin Cooper for the 2005-2006 season.
Cooper, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, had a great rookie season in 2004-05. He split the year between the Pee Dee Pride and the Texas Wildcatters, both of the ECHL. He also received a one-game call-up to the Providence Bruins of the AHL. Cooper's offense exploded in Texas, where he scored 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) in 34 games for the Wildcatters. Overall in his first year as a professional he scored 48 points (19 goals, 29 assists) between the two ECHL clubs.
"Kevin is an offensive ball of energy that Elmira fans will love to watch," said Jackals Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. "He has excellent speed and quickness and a tremendous passion for the game. In the offensive zone he has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Kevin is driven to make the AHL and we will do everything in our power to get him there.."
At 24-year old was a 4-year standout at Division III Middlebury College. He was twice named as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year and set numerous school records. During his senior season, Cooper scored 35 goals (57 points) in 30 games played, earning him the 2003-2004 Division III Player of the Year award, which is D-III's equivalent to the Hobey Baker Award.

The Jackals will start the 2005-06 UHL regular season Friday October 21st in Illinois against the Rockford Ice Hogs. Elmira will hit the ice at the First Arena for the home opener on Saturday October 29th at 7:05 pm against the Roanoke Valley Vipers.
