Jackals Promote Jared Abbott

ELMIRA, NY - September 6, 2016 - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today the team has promoted Jared Abbott to Director of Hockey Operations and Development.
Abbott previously held the title of Assistant General Manager of Hockey Operations and Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the last two seasons. In his new role as Director of Hockey Operations, Abbott has been working closely with head coach Dave Leger to assemble the 2016-17 Jackals roster to bring championship-caliber hockey to the Twin Tiers. Abbott will conduct and execute player signings, contract negotiations, manage affiliate agreements and take care of league correspondence for all Jackals player movement.
"I am very grateful for this opportunity with the Elmira Jackals organization," said Abbott. "Over the past three years the staff, players and of course the fans have become a second family to me. I look forward to working with Dave [Leger] and Mike [Duco] this season building a new and positive culture with a strong foundation for consistent success. It is my goal to bring a Kelly Cup Championship to this very passionate and supportive community."
In addition, Abbott will manage the First Arena Rec Rink and ice bookings. He will schedule events for the rec rink and serve as the liaison between the Elmira Jackals pro team and the Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey Association.
"Our goal is to grow and develop hockey in the Elmira community and the surrounding area," said Abbott. "I believe that begins with young kids playing at the 'Mini Mite' level and building up from that base level."
Abbott will also strengthen ties between the Jackals and the community by working with adult hockey leagues playing at First Arena's Rec Rink.
The 2016-17 season will be Abbott's fourth with the Jackals. Prior to his two seasons as Assistant General Manager of Hockey Operations and Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, Abbott spent his first year with the organization as a post-graduate communications intern. He assisted with the daily broadcasting duties and helped shoulder the load of media responsibilities. Before joining the Jackals and First Arena, Abbott was the play-by-play broadcaster for Penn State University's NCAA Division I men's ice hockey team.
The Flemington, New Jersey native played two season of club ice hockey at Penn State before he joined the broadcasting department. Prior to attending Penn State, Abbott played junior hockey for the New Jersey Renegades of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League.
