Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have traded rookie forward David Herring to the Motor City Mechanics for veteran forward Konstantin Kalmikov. The Jackals also announced the signings of rookie forward Andrew Rozak and the re-signing of forward Josh Piro.

Konstantin Kalmikov has appeared in 19 games for the Motor City Mechanics this season, scoring 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) and 6 penalty minutes. The Kharkov, Ukraine native is in his 10th professional season, playing in the AHL, IHL, ECHL, UHL, in England and in Russia. In 2004-05 Kalmikov played in England for the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL, scoring 43 points in 58 games. The 6'4" 220 lbs. right wing was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 3rd Round (#68 overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. At 27 years old, Kalmikov has played parts of six seasons in the AHL with four different teams, St. John's, Hershey, Houston and Bridgeport.

"Konstantin is a proven offensive threat," said Jackals Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. "He is big and strong and will score goals for us. His experience at the AHL level will help bring some leadership to our young forwards. We needed to improve our depth up front and this move takes care of that problem. He will be in the lineup tomorrow night against Ft. Wayne."

In return Motor City receives rookie forward David Herring, who was signed by the Jackals in early November. Herring had 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) and 25 penalty minutes.

In other moves Tuesday Elmira re-signed forward Josh Piro and agreed to terms with rookie forward Andrew Rozak. Piro appeared in 6 games for the Jackals at the beginning of the season, scoring 1 goal (a short-handed, game-winning goal). He was released by the team on November 10th. Piro, a native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, appeared in 17 games with the Pee Dee Pride under Coach Florio in 2003-04. The former Elmira College player, has battled injuries throughout his first three years as a professional, bouncing around Johnstown, Pee Dee and Dayton in the ECHL and Motor City and Fort Wayne in the UHL. Piro was part of the 2003 ECAC West Champion Elmira College Soaring Eagles team that made their historic appearance in the NCAA Division III Frozen Four.

"We are excited to have Josh back with us," said Coach Florio. "He loves playing in Elmira for the Jackals and he will play whatever role that he is asked. His speed and work ethic will help to get us out of this funk."

Andrew Rozak signs with the Jackals while looking to make his professional debut. The 25-year old has played the last four years of college hockey for Division III Oswego State University in New York. In his college career he had 137 points (30 goals, 107 assists) in 120 games played. In 1999-2000 Rozak had over 100 points for the Junior "A" Milton Merchants and became the MVP and leading scorer of the OPJAHL.

"Rozak is diminutive in size, but he's always put up huge points in juniors and college," said Coach Florio. "He was SUNYAC player of the year with Oswego State. We've been a one-line scoring team, we're looking for depth in scoring and Andy gives us another goal scorer which should help us spread out the scoring."

The Jackals are in action Wednesday night as they host the Fort Wayne Komets for a 7:05 pm face off at the First Arena. This weekend Elmira will travel to Virginia to play two games against Richmond and one against Roanoke.
