Elmira Jackals News Release
For the third time in four games, the Elmira Jackals scored first and yet fell short of victory. Playing the last of a 4-game week, the Jackals faced off in Indiana against the Fort Wayne Komets for the second time this week. On Friday Fort Wayne scored 5 unanswered goals to beat Elmira at the First Arena 5-1. The Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, the site for the 2003-04 UHL All-Star Game, was the venue for Sunday's matchup, but the scenario was very similar from the game in Elmira. A strong second period from the Komets spoiled an early Elmira advantage and gave the defending Colonial Cup champs a valuable two points.
The Jackals struck late in the first period when Eddy Lowe back-handed a rebound beneath the pads of Komets goalie Kevin St. Pierre to give Elmira the lead with 1:22 left on the clock. The goal, assisted by Greg Koehler and Jamie Thompson, was Lowe's ninth of the season. Fort Wayne would do their damage in a short stretch of the second period. Three and a half minutes into the second frame Kelly Perrault tied it up on the power play; thirty two seconds later David Alexandre Beauregard gave Fort Wayne the lead for good; and at the twelve minute mark, Ryan Severson tapped in a rebound to give the Komets a 3-1 win. The Jackals pressed hard in the third period, but were unsuccessful in mounting a comeback. St. Pierre finished with 26 saves on 27 shots, while Ryan McIntosh made 29 of 32 saves in a solid performance for the Jackals.
Elmira continues its road trip with back-to-back games with the Richmond Riverdogs, starting Tuesday night January 6th at 7:05 pm at the Richmond Coliseum.
