Elmira Jackals News Release
The Jackals were hoping to end their recent drop in form as they kicked off their 7-game road trip Saturday night in Flint, Michigan. But the Generals had an ace up their sleeve, unexpectantly starting backup goaltender Jan Chovan over their accomplished started Dan McIntyre. Chovan chose Saturday to have a career performance, as he blanked the Jackals for his first ever professional shutout.
Flint got on the board in the first period on the power play as Bobby Reynolds' one-timer found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Flint turned it on in the second period, as Justin Ossachuk scored his first of the year (the only even strength goal of the game). Reynolds added a shorthanded goal midway through the period and finished off his hat-trick with another powerplay strike to send Flint into the second break up 4-0. Elmira turned up the heat on Chovan, who stopped everything thrown at him and held the Jackals at bay through the last twenty minutes, recording 22 saves in the game. Peter Aubry stopped 25 of 29 in goal for the Jackals.
Elmira looks to avenge a 5-1 loss at the First Arena on Friday as they head to Fort Wayne for a Sunday afternoon match up with the Komets.
