New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ -A wild pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning highlighted a brutal loss for the New Jersey Jackals as they fell 5-4 to Quebec; the Capitales pulled out a series sweep of the three game set.
The Jackals were oh-so close to winning this ball game after grabbing a 4-3 lead in the eighth, thanks a game tying RBI by Nick Giarraputo (2-for-5) that drove in Jeremy Barnes, and then a go ahead RBI by Yansanberty Arbelo (1-for-4).
Danny Rams had a big single in that inning that moved Giarraputo to third before Arbelo drove him in with the go-ahead run.
However, Quebec tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to the speed of Maxime Lefevre. Lefevre, who pinch ran for Rene Leveret, stole second and third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Asif Shah.
This helped set up the dramatics in the tenth. After a walk to Jon Malo, and a single by Royce Consigli, Lefevre bunted the runners over putting extra pressure on the Jackals' defense.
The Jackals decided to walk Josue Peley who was hitting .360 with RISP for the struggling Shah. However Keith Cantwell's 1-2 pitch went behind the backstop bringing in the winning run for Quebec.
Chris Duffy (2-for-5) had a home run for the Jackals that tied the game at two in the third inning, extending his hitting streak to four games. Duffy hit .583 during the three game series in Quebec.
Chris Curran (2-for-5) led off for the Jackals for the first time this season, with Jose Cuevas (1-for-5) batting second. The duo helped produce the Jackals first run of the day, when Curran led off the third with a double, and Cuevas drove him in with a single through the hole at second base.
New Jersey now heads off to Trois Rivieres for a three-game weekend set against the Aigles. Pregame will be live on Jackals.com at 6:50.
