Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have acquired right wing Bobby Kukulka in a trade with the Port Huron Flags for left wing Scott Wray.
Bobby Kukulka comes to the Jackals on one of the hottest offensive periods of his professional career. He was acquired by the Jackals on Tuesday from the Port Huron Flags in exchange for left wing Scott Wray.
Kukulka begin the 2006-07 season with the New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League, where he had 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 11 games. He then moved to the United Hockey League and debuted for the Port Huron Flags on December 8, 2007. With Port Huron Kukulka caught fire and went on a goal scoring rampage. The McComb, Michigan native produced a seven-game goal-scoring streak, netting eight goals during that stretch, part of a twelve game run where he scored twelve goals. In 33 games for Port Huron this season, Kukulka has 31 points (20 goals, 11 assists) and 46 penalty minutes.
"We are excited to add a player like Bobby to our lineup," said Jackals General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "He brings speed, energy and a strong work ethic to the ice, along with the exceptional goal scoring season he has produced. Unfortunately to get a quality player we had to give up a quality player in Scott Wray. We want to wish Scott and his family the best of luck and thank him for his time in Elmira."
The 5'8" right wing is reunited with General Manager Robbie Nichols and Assistant Coach Kris Waltze. The 23-year old Kukulka played under Nichols during the 2004-05 season with the Flint Generals and then again last season with the Richmond Riverdogs. Currently in his 3rd season of pro hockey, Kukulka has scored 87 points (47 goals, 40 assists) and 300 penalty minutes in 190 career pro games.
Scott Wray leaves the Jackals for Port Huron ranked 2nd on the Jackals in scoring and goals. In 57 games play, Wray posted 47 points and 25 goals and was one of three Elmira players selected to the 2007 UHL All-Star Classic in Fort Wayne. The reunion between Wray and the Jackals is not far away on the schedule; Elmira will face Wray and the Port Huron Flags this Sunday, March 4th at McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron for a 5:00 pm face off.
The Jackals are back in action on Wednesday February 28th as they host the Bloomington PrairieThunder for a 7:05 pm face off at First Arena. Friday March 2nd the Jackals will battle the Flint Generals at 7:35 pm.
