Dallas Jackals News Release
The Jackals got off to a promising start. They scored first on a drop kick by Martin Elias for a 3-0 lead in the 12th minute. Their situation looked even better a few minutes later when Gold prop Jarred Adams took a red card for a hit on Ben Fry, giving the Jackals a man advantage. In fact, the Gold lost both of its props at the same time when Issac Salmon had to leave with a leg injury.
But NOLA scored in the 16th minute on a try by wing Taniela Filimone off an overthrow on a line-out. The conversion failed.
The Jackals lost their man advantage minutes later when Fry took a yellow card. The ensuing penalty kick gave the Gold an 8-3 lead and led to a stretch of four NOLA tries in the next 10 minutes and scored 27 straight points. The Jackals could never overcome what had grown to a 27-3 lead.
Jackals captain Sam Golla gave his team a boost with a blocked kick and a try in the 33rd minute. But NOLA added another try just before halftime to make it 32-15.
In the second half, the Jackals had several chances deep in NOLA's end of the field but had several interceptions and knock-ons to keep them at bay. They didn't score again until the 73rd minute on a try by Daemon Torres.
The Dallas Jackals are back in action at home in Choctaw Stadium on Friday, March 29, when they take on the Houston SaberCats. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT and the match will be televised by The Rugby Network. Get your tickets today!
