(Amarillo, TX) - It was Kids' Day at the Amarillo Civic Center on Tuesday morning as the Jacks took on the division rival Gorillas. The offense scored six goals in the second and third periods combined as the Jacks improved to 4-1-0 on the year with a 7-1 win over Amarillo.
The first period was a slow one between both teams with a lot of faceoffs delaying the action. Dominic Leveille did find a way to put the Jacks up 1-0 after poking the puck past Ryan Scott at 14:04. Kory Karlander had the assist, it was Leveille's fourth goal of the season.
Amarillo would answer back 6:30 in as Sam Ftorek scored to tie the game at 1-1. Stuart McRae had the assist. Odessa would come back however with three unanswered goals. Phil Plante put the Jacks back up 2-1 on an assist from Russ Moyer at 15:02. It was Plante's first of the season. Jonathan Labelle scored next for the Jacks at 17:15 on a Brian Swiniarski assist. It was Labelle's first goal and point of the season for Odessa. Finally, the Jacks made it a 4-1 score after Leveille created a turnover in the Amarillo zone and centered it to Karlander who scored his third goal of the season at 18:47. Leveille was credited with the assist as Odessa led 4-1 after two.
In the third period Odessa added three more goals to pull away. 1:20 into the period, Mike Lesperance scored his third of the year with a power play goal to make it 5-1 Jacks. Mario Joly and Sebastien Thinel added the helpers. Brian Swiniarski scored his second goal of the season at 8:23 on a pass from Jeff Pierce to make it a five goal lead for Odessa. Then Karlander would score one more time as a puck he threw in front of the net deflected an Amarillo skate and into the goal for a 7-1 Jackalopes lead. Karlander's second goal of the game and fourth of the season came at 15:06
On Friday the Jackalopes will play their home opener against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at 7:05 PM. It's T-Shirt Night with the Jacks and fans can get vouchers for free tickets at Rosa's Café in Odessa. Tickets are still available.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in its 12th season and will play it's home opener on Halloween night against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at 7:05 PM.
