J.R. Duffey Named December Player of the Month

January 2, 2010 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
North Texas Fresh News Release

J.R. Duffey, North Crowley H.S. graduate, was named Player of the Month for the North Texas Fresh for the Month of December.

"He has a skill set not seen by many players that are in this league," stated Jay Bowdy, Owner/CEO of the Fresh. "He has the opportunity to be the MVP of the ABA with his versatility and core group that surrounds him."

Duffey comes into January as the North Texas Fresh leading scorer at 19.5 points per contest. Surprisingly enough, he has done this as the 6th man for the Fresh; only starting in one game against Texas Fuel.

"I'm comfortable with coming off the bench and producing." stated Duffey. "Coach Jay Bowdy has made it clear thatall of us arestarters, plus it makes other teams aware that we have a really talented basketball team regardless who starts or finishes the game."

Duffey is also averaging 11.8 rebounds per game; 3rd best on this North Texas Fresh team. His dominance has caused many teams to change their game plans and bring double teams to contain him on the offensive end, but he has still been able to flirt with the 20 points per game mark while only taking 13 shot attempts per game.

"With all the great players we have on this roster, it was a tough decision for us to make," stated Bowdy. "Lewis Lee has been phenomenal as well, averaging 17.5 points and 13.7 rebounds per game. Titus Byrd has been great also chipping in 15 points, 9.2 assist, and 3.2 steals a game. The deciding factor has been how well Duffey adapts to the players that are on the court and the ability to get them open first before looking to become a scorer. That is why he is one of the leaders and Captains for the Fresh."

With the Fresh having a 6 - 1 record thus far, look for many of the Fresh players to be selected to the ABA All Star game and All ABA Team when the season comes to the end.Duffey and the rest of the North Texas Fresh are in the course ofmaking historyasthe Road to the ABA Championship continues.
