Ironmen Secure Series Win

Lorain County Ironmen News Release


(Beckley, WV)- After losing the first game of a four game series in West Virginia against the Miners, the Lorain County Ironmen rebounded to win the final three games thanks to a 6-5 win on Sunday afternoon in Beckley, WV.

Kevin Hughes started and went 7 innings to earn his 4th win which ties him for the league lead. Hughes allowed 5 hits, 4 runs. He walked 2 and struck out 5.

The offense got started early again, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Zak Blair singled to start the inning. Mike Grieco then reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, Zach Smith. Jeff Cola followed and reached base on an error by the third basemen to load the bases. Brad Hallberg hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Blair for the first run of the game. Andrew Kubuski then doubled over the head of the centerfielder to score Grieco. Connor Weir's sac fly made it 3-0.

Spencer Bryant worked the 8th inning in relief of Hughes. Sam Alvis followed in the 9th and worked a perfect inning, striking out 2 for his second save of the season. With the win the Ironmen return home only 1 game out of first place with a week left to play in the first half of the season. The Prospect League playoffs are structured so that there is a winner of the first half and a winner of the second half.

The Ironmen will be home again on Tuesday night for City of Lorain night at the Pipe Yard. The Butler Bluesox will be in town for a 7:05 start. In honor of City of Lorain night the Ironmen will offer $1 hot dogs and beer.
