Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
June 22, 2005 - Up against stellar Renegade pitching for the second night in a row, the IronBirds (0-2) could muster 3 hits in a 5-2 loss on Wednesday. The series finale will be played tomorrow night at 7:05 and can be found on AM 970 WAMD or on the IronBirds website. We apologize for the technical difficulties in trying to access live coverage on our website, the problem is being checked out and will be fixed ASAP.
Starter Radhames Liz pitched the first 3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs (1 earned) with a walk and 5 K's. He was done in early by some shaky IronBirds defense, as the âBirds were down 2-0 before they came to bat.
Aberdeen cut the lead in half in the bottom half, as CF Zach Davis came around to score on an RBI groundout by DH Jason Maxey.
Hudson Valley added a run in the top of the 3rd, but the âBirds again cut the lead to 1 in the bottom of the 6th. With Ryan Steinbach on base, Maxey took a pitch on the outer half and laced it down the 3rd base line, bringing Steinbach all the way around with the IronBirds final run.
Hudson Valley responded with 2 runs in the top of the 7th off of reliever Kyle Boehm to put the game out of reach.
Bob McCrory will take the ball in the series finale for the âBirds, looking for their first win of the young season.
