Aberdeen, MD- Lucas Duda hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to break open a tie game and lead the Brooklyn Cyclones to a three game sweep of the Aberdeen IronBirds with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday night.
Duda's sac fly to left off Aberdeen's Kyle Touchatt broke a 1-1 tie and gave Brooklyn its second consecutive sweep of the IronBirds.
The IronBirds lost despite a strong outing from Aberdeen starter Zach Jevne. Jevne gave his team its first quality start of the season but to no avail. Jevne gave up one unearned run on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in six innings. Jevne struck out the side in the first inning and fanned at least one batter in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings. The eight strikeouts were the most by an IronBirds starter this season.
Brooklyn took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Joaquin Rodriguez's sac fly to left.
The IronBirds tied the game with a run in the seventh when Matt Angle singled to shallow left with the bases loaded and two outs. Aberdeen nearly took the lead on the same play but Jedidiah Stephen was thrown out at home while trying to score.
