Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD - The Aberdeen IronBirds today announced that Jai Lewis, an Aberdeen HS alumnus and former George Mason University basketball player, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to Bill Ripken and kick off the IronBirds fifth season at Ripken Stadium on Friday, June 23 against the Brooklyn Cyclones at 7:35 p.m.

Lewis was an integral part of the GMU Patriots Final Four team this past March and was signed by the New York Giants as an un-drafted free agent after the NFL draft in April.

Lewis joins previous honorees Vi Ripken (2002), Aberdeen HS alumnus and NFL linebacker EJ Henderson (2003), former Baltimore Ravens owner Art Modell (2004) and University of Maryland men's basketball coach Gary Williams (2005) in throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to start an IronBirds season.

"We are excited that Jai will be joining us on Opening Day and continuing our tradition of outstanding ceremonial first pitch honorees," said IronBirds General Manager Aaron Moszer. "As an Aberdeen High School alumnus and his amazing run with George Mason, Jai is the ideal candidate to start the 2006 IronBirds season." Manager Andy Etchebarren returns for his second season at the helm for the IronBirds. Etchebarren, a 17 year Major Leaguer, played with the Orioles for 12 years.

Limited ticket availability remains for 2006 home games. For more information, please call the IronBirds office at 410-297-9292.
