Irish Tenors Star Ronan Tynan To Perform At Kansas City Explorers Match

KANSAS CITY, MO. (April 20, 2011) - After winning the 2010 World TeamTennis championship, the Kansas City Explorers are known for bringing some of the world's best tennis talent to town. This year the Explorers are adding top-tier musical talent to the lineup as well.

Team officials announced today that international music star Ronan Tynan, a founding member of the Irish Tenors, will provide halftime entertainment at the Explorers July 8 match against the Newport Beach Breakers at Barney Allis Plaza.

Individual tickets for all Explorers matches will go on sale May 23. Season tickets for the 2011 season are now on sale.Box seats are $250 each for all 7 home matches and grandstand seats are $140 each for all home matches. Weekday matches begin at 7:35 p.m. and Sunday matches start at 6:35 p.m.

This will be Tynan's first performance at a Kansas City sporting event. On July 9, he will also perform at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at the Kansas City T-Bones game; Starting time is 7:05 pm.

"Ronan is an amazing singer and we're thrilled to bring him to Kansas City for our fans," said Explorers co-owner/GM Jeff Launius. "We are excited to feature not only the world's best doubles team in Bob and Mike Bryan this summer, but also to showcase world-class musical talent. Thanks to the T-Bones and their general manager, Chris Browne for partnering with us to make this possible. It was great working with the T-Bones to bring this World-class entertainment to our City and fans."

Tynan first burst onto the music scene with the popular international singing trio, The Irish Tenors. Tynan moved on to a successful solo career and has performed at a number of major events, including President Ronald Reagan's funeral and numerous 9/11 benefits. He is also widely recognized for his performances of "God Bless America" at New York Yankees games.

Tynan is also a champion disabled athlete. After both lower legs were amputated at the age of 20 following a car accident, Tynan graduated from medical school with a specialization in orthopedic sports injuries. Tynan set numerous records in track and field events in the amputee class.

The Explorers 2011 season begins on the road on July 5 in Washington, D.C., when they face the Washington Kastles, led by Venus Williams. The team's first home match is set for July 7 when the Explorers host the Sacramento Capitals. The Explorers will play 14 regular season matches, including seven home matches at their home venue, Explorers Stadium at Barney Allis Plaza (12th St. and Wyandotte and 13th and Central Ave.).

Joining the Bryans on the 2011 roster are returning players Kveta Peschke and Ricardo Mello, along with young Americans Madison Brengle and Alex Kuznetsov. Brent Haygarth returns as the Explorers coach.

Visiting this summer at Barney Allis Plaza is former world No. 8 Mark Philippoussis, who will be playing for the St. Louis Aces. Philippoussis is a two-time Davis Cup champion who has won 11 ATP singles titles.
