Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (50-58) went quietly as the Fresno Grizzlies (66-45) claimed an 8-1 win, Thursday at Principal Park to open the homestand. The I-Cubs were outhit 12-5 and added four errors to the mix.
Jen-Ho Tseng (4-1) continued his solid Triple-A start, spinning four shutout innings before coming unhinged in the fifth. The Grizzlies would get six runs, three earned, in the inning to chase Tseng from the game. The righty finished his night after 4.2 innings, his shortest outing of the season, and took his first loss as an I-Cub.
The I-Cubs threatened in the bottom of the fifth as they loaded the bags on three straight walks, but came up empty. They would wait until the sixth to break the shutout as two straight walks to Jacob Hannemann and Chesny Young set up an RBI single for Elliot Soto. Fresno extended its lead to the final 8-1 score on a Jon Kemmer two-run homer in the seventh and the Grizzlies rolled to victory.
Iowa walked eight times to match a season high with John Andreoli and Mark Zagunis each collecting a pair of free passes. Pierce Johnson and Matt Carasiti helped the I-Cubs in the late frames, spinning a combined 2.2 scoreless innings. Johnson struck out three in his 1.2 innings of work.
First pitch is set for 7:08 p.m. tomorrow for Mediacom Firework Friday as righty Aaron Brooks (5-9) gets the ball for Iowa. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
