
Iowa Cubs Doubled up by Sounds 6-3

The Iowa Cubs fell 6-3 to the Nashville Sounds on Opening Night and Ryne Sandberg's Triple-A managerial debut at Principal Park Thursday.
Nashville's Brendan Katin pulled ahead of the Cubs with two home runs. Norris Hopper walked to start the game and was driven in on Trent Oeltjen's double. Katin then hit his first homer of the game in the first inning giving the Sounds a 3-0 lead. His second homer came in the eighth inning for the sixth and final run of the game.
Iowa's Sam Fuld led off with a single for the Cubs and scored on an error in the third inning. Fuld was 1-for-2 with one RBI and tallied Iowa's final run of the game in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Bobby Scales. Scales went 1-for-1 with three walks while Matt Camp posted two hits in the game.
Adam Heether of Nashville, who was 2-for-3, also homered in the third inning.
Iowa starting pitcher J.R. Mathes (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over 5.0 innings of work. The Sounds' Kameron Loe (1-0) picked up the win allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out six.
