METAIRIE, La. - Logan Morrison's two-out RBI single to center in the bottom of the ninth gave the New Orleans Zephyrs a 2-1 victory over the Round Rock Express in the 2010 season opener for both teams Thursday night at Zephyr Field.

Donald Murphy hit a two-out triple off the right-field wall in the ninth before Morrison stepped to the plate and delivered the game-winning hit. That made a winner of New Orleans reliever Scott Strickland (1-0), who blew a save in the top of the ninth by allowing a run on three hits.

Express reliever Roy Corcoran (0-1) took the loss, allowing the consecutive hits to end the game after he retired the first two batters he faced in the ninth.

Brett Hayes' leadoff home run to right in the bottom of the third provided the game's lone run until the ninth. Round Rock pieced together three consecutive two-out singles to tie the game. Drew Meyer started the rally with an infield single, and Yordany Ramirez followed with a pinch-hit single to right. Jason Bourgeois then tied the game with a singled through the right side.

Neither starter factored in the decision despite strong outings. Round Rock's Josh Banks allowed one run on three hits over 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Gary Majewski worked 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.

New Orleans starter Ryan Tucker tossed 6.0 shutout innings, scattering four hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Relievers Chris Leroux, Kasey Olenberger each threw a scoreless frame before giving way to Strickland in the ninth.

Round Rock out-hit New Orleans nine-to-five, but the Zephyrs stranded nine, including five in scoring position.

The Express and Zephyrs continue their four-game series Friday at Zephyr Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT. Round Rock sends south paw Polin Trinidad (0-0, 0.00) to the mound, while the Zephyrs counter with right-hander Rick VandenHurk (0-0, 0.00).
