Iorio Pitches Gem, But Ferryhawks Claim Series Finale

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Staten Island FerryHawks 1-0 on Thursday afternoon in the final game of a two-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Staten Island struck for the game's only run on Justin O'Conner's RBI single to right field in the second inning off Ducks starter Joe Iorio. Long Island brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth inning, but Vladimir Frias' deep drive to right was caught at the wall by Joseph Monge.
FerryHawks starter Hector Guance (2-2) earned the win, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out two. Iorio (6-2) suffered the hard luck loss, twirling eight innings of one-run ball, yielding seven hits and no walks while striking out a season-high seven batters. Victor Capellan picked up his eighth save with a scoreless ninth.
Johnni Turbo led the Ducks offensively with two hits.
The Ducks hit the road on Friday night to open a three-game series against the Lexington Legends. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from Wild Health Field. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on LIDucks.com as well as on the Ducks official Facebook page and YouTube channel. Left-hander Stephen Tarpley (3-3, 3.59) gets the start for the Ducks against Legends righty Brett Schneider (0-1, 7.20).
Long Island returns home on Tuesday night to begin another three-game set with the Legends. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It's Irish Heritage Night at the ballpark, and the Ducks will be celebrating Irish culture throughout the ballgame. It's also a Triple Play Tuesday. If the Ducks turn a triple play during the game, one lucky fan will win $25,000. Simply sign up prior to first pitch at the Ticket Kiosk on the main concourse to be eligible.
