Intimidators Receive Top Pick Walker; Promote Shoemaker to Dash

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 27, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted All-Star left fielder Brady Shoemaker to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem. In a corresponding move today, the Intimidators will receive outfielder Keenyn Walker from Advanced Rookie Great Falls, the White Sox first pick in this year's draft.

Walker, the 47th pick in the supplemental first round of the 2011 June draft, hit .333 (20-60) with nine RBI in 15 games with Great Falls in the Pioneer League this year. The White Sox drafted the switch- hitting outfielder out of Central Arizona College where he hit .412 with six home runs and 59 RBI with an on-base percentage of .509 in 69 games this season. This year he helped Central Arizona reach the Junior College World Series championship game.

The Salt Lake City native was drafted out of high school by the Chicago Cubs in the 16th round of the 2009 draft, but he spent the last two season playing junior college ball.

Shoemaker, 24, currently leads the South Atlantic League with 119 hits and is the only player to have played in every game this season for his team, starting a league-high 99 games for Kannapolis in left field. He is second in the league with 68 runs scored, tied for second in the league with 28 doubles, third in total bases (184), fourth in batting average (.319, 119-373), and tied for fourth with 65 RBI. His 11 home runs is third-most on the Intimidators this season, and he was one of three All-Stars for Kannapolis this season, his second All-Star selection.

The Indiana State University product was selected by the White Sox in the 19th round of the 2009 draft and began his professional career with a 28-game hitting streak with the Advanced Rookie Bristol White Sox, the fourth-longest hitting streak in the minor leagues in 2009. Shoemaker was named an Appalachian League All-Star that season, and was promoted to Kannapolis for the 2010 campaign. Last season with the Intimidators, Shoemaker his .293 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI in 96 games, finishing the year ranked sixth in the SAL in slugging percentage (.473) and seventh in on-base percentage (.381).

Also on the move today, the Intimidators promoted outfielder Kenny Gilbert to the Winston-Salem Dash. Gilbert hit .257 with a home run and 26 RBI over 56 games for Kannapolis this season. Kannapolis will also receive infielder Leighton Pangilinan from Great Falls. The first baseman hit .286 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 29 games with the Voyagers this season. The White Sox selected Pangilinan in the 40th round of the 2009 June draft, and he spent the last two years with Advanced Rookie Bristol and Great Falls.
