Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Intimidators blew a five-run eighth-inning lead and lost 8-7 in 10 innings on a rainy Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park.
Kannapolis led 7-2 heading to the bottom of the eighth inning, but Lakewood scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth and a run in the bottom of the ninth to send the games to extra innings.
The Intimidators (14-11) were one out from victory in the ninth, before Zach Collier tripled off of Dan Remenowksy. Pinch hitter Brendan Akashian then hit a routine groundball that went straight through the legs of Drew Garcia and allowed the tying run to score.
Lakewood could have ended it in the bottom of the ninth on a Harold Garcia base hit, but Sergio Morales threw out pinch runner Jesus Villegas at home plate to send the game to extra innings.
Lakewood got three straight one-out singles off of Remenowsky (3-1) in the bottom of the tenth, including a walk-off base hit from Travis Mattair, to score the winning run.
Kannapolis scored a season-high seven runs thanks to a consistent offensive attack. Tyler Kuhn had three hits as the designated hitter, but it was not quite enough offense to maintain the late lead.
Dexter Carter did not factor in the decision despite going six strong innings. Carter allowed two runs and struck out nine. He left the game with the Intimidators leading 5-2.
BJ Rosenberg (2-0) got the win in relief for the BlueClaws. He pitched the final two innings without allowing a run to secure the Lakewood (14-10) victory.
