Inter Miami CF Narrowly Falls to FC Dallas
Published on April 8, 2023 under Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami started the match with one change to its starting XI from its last match. Drake Callender started in goal; DeAndre Yedlin, Sergii Kryvtsov and Chris McVey started in defense with Robert Taylor and Franco Negri just in front of them as wingbacks; Jean Mota and Bryce Duke anchored the center of midfield with Nicolás Stefanelli above them and below the below the strikers; Josef Martínez and Leonardo Campana led the team in attack.
Campana returned to the starting lineup tonight to register his first appearance of the 2023 MLS regular season after recovering from injury. Martínez, meanwhile, registered his 150th overall MLS appearance tonight.
Match Action
Inter Miami controlled possession throughout the first half in search of its goal, but didn't find the back of the net. Despite strong defensive efforts from Kryvtsov, including a crucial block in the 15th minute, and Callender, including a spectacular low reaction save following the rebound of Kryvtsov's block, it was Dallas that broke the deadlock.
In the 27th minute, a pass across goal was deflected and found Jesús Ferreira in front of goal, who finished to make it 0-1. The one-goal deficit for the hosts remained intact through what was left of the first 45 minutes.
Inter Miami's pressure mounted in the second half, with the team dominating even more possession and testing the opposition goal with more shots, but despite its best efforts the scoreline remained unchanged and the team fell to a 0-1 defeat.
Post-Match Reaction
"At the start of last season, we went on a similar run and then we did turn it around. We have to turn it around now and we have to turn it around quick...Now it's time to get back to winning ways," said head coach Phil Neville. "We have a great group of players and staff, and togetherness and spirit are the key things that we've built here, and that must remain."
Miami Hurricanes Basketball Celebration
At halftime of the match, members of the University of Miami men's and women's basketball teams were celebrated on the field following their historic NCAA Tournament runs to the Final Four and Elite Eight respectively.
National Autism Awareness Month Recognition
Inter Miami also welcomed Autism Soccer back to DRV PNK Stadium for the second consecutive year in observance of National Autism Awareness Month. Fifteen young athletes from Autism Soccer took the pitch pre-match to do a skills showcase and practice ahead of the game.
Autism Soccer is a program created to promote social inclusion, integration and development of children and adolescents with special needs, utilizing soccer as a tool to fight against physical inactivity, premature obesity and monotony in the lives of these kids. Inter Miami CF and the Inter Miami CF Foundation are happy to team up once again to raise awareness and give these kids an unforgettable experience as they take the pitch at DRV PNK Stadium to do what they love, play fútbol!
