MONTREAL - The installation of a natural grass surface at Olympic Stadium got underway Friday morning, ahead of the international match between the Montreal Impact and legendary Italian club AC Milan, which takes place on June 2nd at 8 pm. The installation of a temporary natural grass field is a first for Olympic Stadium.

"Playing host to a prestigious club like AC Milan meant we had to go ahead and install a natural grass field," explained Impact executive vice president Richard Legendre. "The installation work is going well and could be finished by this evening. Following completion, we will treat the grass so that it's uniform and compact. »

The grass surface, measuring 95,000 square feet (8,826 square metres), comes from Bastien Sod Farms in Terrebonne, Quebec. The strips of sod are 8 cm thick and are applied on a 10 cm layer of sand. A total of 65 truckloads of sand were necessary for the job.

Following the game, the grass surface will be relocated to the Impact's training field on the grounds of Saputo Stadium.

MORE THAN 30,000 TICKETS SOLD The Impact also announced Friday that more than 30,000 tickets have been sold for this historic match.

"We've reached an important milestone, but we believe this match deserves a crowd of more than 40,000 fans," added Richard Legendre. "It's not every year that AC Milan visits Montreal. We know that their key players will take part in this game. Our team is very competitive, something we proved versus Fiorentina so we are expecting an exciting match."

Among the star players expected to play for AC Milan are midfielders Ronaldinho, Massimo Ambrosini and Clarence Seedorf, as well as forwards Alexandre Pato and Filippo Inzaghi, just to name a few.

A number of excellent tickets are still available in every category, for as low as $22. Tickets are on sale through the Admission Network or via the Olympic Stadium and Saputo Stadium box offices. Top category ticket-holders are also entitled to attend AC Milan's training session, June 1, at Saputo Stadium.
