
Inferno Sign Winger Fussey

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) Aug. 21, 2007- The Columbia Inferno have signed winger Owen Fussey, head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today. Fussey tallied 45 points (25 goals, 20 assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Inferno during the 2005-06 season. The 6-foot, 195-pound sniper also played 14 games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League last year, recording two points (one goal, one assist) and four penalty minutes. "Owen was a very important multi-dimensional player for us last season. We were definitely a better team with him in the lineup," Mann said. "Owen provides us with skill, physical play and leadership. We are very pleased to have him back with us in Columbia." Fussey, 24, was originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the third round, 90th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has 53 points (23 goals, 30 assists) and 91 penalty minutes in 204 career regular season AHL games with the Portland Pirates, Hershey Bears and Toronto Marlies from 2003-04 through 2005-06. He has also played in eight career Calder Cup Playoff games, logging five penalty minutes. Prior to being drafted, Fussey played 237 career regular-season games in the Western Hockey League, racking 179 points (106 goals, 73 assists) and 180 penalty minutes for the Calgary Hitmen and Moose Jaw Warriors. Fussey also has 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 44 career WHL playoff games. In addition, Fussey will be returning to Winnipeg to participate in the Manitoba Moose's AHL training camp in late September.
