INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, July 15, 2014) - Indy Eleven Professional Soccer today announced the acquisition of Honduran midfielder Sergio Peña to the North American Soccer League squad via a loan deal with Honduran First Division side Real Sociedad de Tocoa. Per club policy, terms of the agreement that brings the 27-year-old midfielder to the Hoosier State side will not be disclosed.

"Sergio has been on our radar ever since [Head Coach] Juergen Sommer's first scouting trip to Central America last fall, so we're pleased to finally bring him aboard," said Indy Eleven President/General Manager Peter Wilt. "Sergio's experience and skill set in the middle of the field should pay dividends for the club immediately."

Peña will be available for selection this Saturday, July 19, when Indy Eleven will open the home portion of its 2014 NASL Fall Season slate against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at IUPUI's Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The 7:30 p.m. kickoff will be televised live across Central Indiana on MyINDY-TV 23 and can be seen online via the NASLLive.com subscription package.

"In Sergio Peña we're getting a player with great size, pace and athleticism," said Indy Eleven Director of Soccer Operations/Head Coach Juergen Sommer. "He's a very technical, box-to-box worker that will give us added range and depth in midfield."

Peña has spent his entire professional career with Real Sociedad in his native Honduras, joining the squad in 2007 as a 20-year-old. The midfielder helped the club gain promotion to the Liga Nacional de Futbol de Honduras (Honduran First Division) in 2012 by scoring the second tally in Real's decisive 2-0 second leg playoff victory over C.D. Parrillas One. Pena's steady play - he netted five goals in 57 appearances since Real Sociedad's ascension to the first division in the summer of 2012 - helped los Tocaeños to runner up finishes in both the 2012/13 Clausura and 2013/14 Apertura tournaments.

"I'm grateful to everyone here at Indy Eleven and to God for giving me this new opportunity," said Peña, whose full name is Sergio Salvador Peña Zelaya. "I am excited to bring my talents here to Indianapolis and feel good about this new experience."
