Indians Installing $1.1 Million Video Board at Victory Field

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The Indianapolis Indians have begun installation of the largest high-resolution video board in minor league baseball. The new video board, representing an investment of approximately $1.1 million, will be ready for action when the Indians play their home opener at Victory Field on Wednesday, April 9.

"Adding a top-quality video board is a high priority for us," Indians general manager Cal Burleson said. "Not only will a board of this caliber enhance the fan experience at Indians games, it will add to Victory Field's reputation as the best minor league ballpark in America."

The video screen will measure 18' x 32' which is three times the square footage of the old matrix display. It will be retrofit onto the existing scoreboard structure. The video screen will be produced and installed by Daktronics, Inc. based in Brookings, South Dakota. Daktronics has installed over 600 video screens world-wide including installations at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the New England Patriots' Gillette Stadium and the Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park. The video production system supplier and integrator is Duncan Video of Carmel, Indiana. Duncan Video is a leading integrator of audio and video systems for the broadcast and production communities.

Removal of the old matrix board at Victory Field began Wednesday and will continue throughout this week.

• The video board will be the largest, high-resolution board in minor league baseball. There are 160 teams in minor league baseball including 30 at the Triple-A level.

• The video board screen will measure 18' x 32' with a pixel pitch of 23 mm and a horizontal viewing angle of 140 degrees.

• The Indians investment in the project will be approximately $1.1 million. Victory Field cost $18 million to construct in 1996.

• Installation of the new board will be completed in time for the Indians 2003 home opener scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

• The Indians have partnered with Daktronics, Inc. and Duncan Video for installation of the board and the production system.

• Daktronics, Inc. is based in Brookings, South Dakota and has installed over 600 video screens world-wide including installations at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the New England Patriots' Gillette Stadium and the Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park.

• Duncan Video is based in Carmel, Ind. and is a leading integrator of audio and video systems for the broadcast and production communities.

• The old matrix board measured 12' x 16'. Removal of the old board started on Wednesday, February 19 and is expected to be completed on Friday, February 21.

• Victory Field has been referred to as "the best minor league ballpark in America" by Baseball America (1/99), Sports Illustrated (8/01), and minorleaguenews.com (9/01)
