Indians help raise over $205,000 for charities in 2004

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians donated over $95,000 to charitable organizations in 2006, while non-profit groups received over $110,000 in efforts coordinated by the team's front office.

"The Indians are pleased to be in a position where they can give back to our community," Vice President & General Manager Cal Burleson says. "Our staff works hard to coordinate these efforts, and we appreciate the high-level of support that we receive from sponsors."

The Indians filled $53,044 worth of ticket donation requests in 2006, in addition to $11,341 as part of their Pinch Hitter program. The organization also raised $10,263 for the Mike Schneider Family Memorial Fund by hosting a postseason golf outing.

The ticket donations included 2,200 seats for Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) students, who participated in the Baseball in Education program at Victory Field.

The Pinch Hitter program provides individuals and corporations an opportunity to donate unused tickets to charitable organizations. Schools, hospitals and churches typically highlight the list of those who receive these tickets. Ski Landscape participated as a corporate donor in 2006.

In non-profit fundraising, 16 groups raised $84,636 through their efforts with ARAMARK at the Victory Field concession stands during the past year.

The Tribe's Thursday Fundraiser program helped raise $21,212. The Villages, National Kidney Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indianapolis, Outrun the Sun and Girls Incorporated of Monroe County all worked with the club to raise funds.

The Indians also worked with Jonathan Byrd's Cafeteria, Great Clips, Key Bank, Crystal Flash and the Mac Fehsenfeld Family Foundation to raise money for local charities. The National Alliance for Autism Research, American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis, USS Indianapolis Fund and Riley Children's Hospital benefited from the funds collected.
