Central Valley Coyotes News Release
Bossier City, LA-The Central Valley Coyotes capitalized on four second half turnovers by the Bossier Shreveport BattleWings Saturday, as the Coyotes secured the victory in dramatic fashion, 55-54.
At one point in the third quarter, Central Valley found themselves staring at a 20 point deficit in front of 4,135 fans at the CenturyTel Arena. However, the Coyotes defense stepped up in the fourth quarter and provided the spark that led to Central Valley's comeback win.
Chowchilla native Wes Borba had a timely second half interception and Central Valley DB Maurice Holmes had a huge game, forcing three fumbles and two pass break ups. Holmes earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors.
Former Cal and City College of San Francisco QB Joe Ayoob had a solid first start for the Coyotes. In his first arena game ever, Ayoob passed for 175 yards and threw five touchdowns. He also added one more touchdown on the ground to give him six for the game. Ayoob showed great poise and elusiveness as he led the Coyotes comeback.
Second year WR Tonae Martin had the magic touch on Saturday, as in every time he touched the ball he scored. Martin hauled in three catches for 47 yards and three touchdowns, including one on the Coyotes first offensive play of the game. For his efforts, Martin earned the Cutters Catch of the Game. Jason Barnes also had a solid first game as he pulled down seven catches for 76 yards and a score.
The Coyotes benefited greatly from the strong return efforts of WR Jomo Wilson. Wilson, in his first game returning kicks, had eight returns for 246 yards and a touchdown. He took the games opening kickoff all the way to the BattleWings five yard line which set up a first play touchdown from Ayoob to Martin.
The BattleWings got a solid performance from QB Gary Cooper who threw for 282 yards and seven TD's. WR Chavis McCollister had ten grabs for 124 yards and four TD's in a losing effort.
The Coyotes improve their record to (1-0) for the fourth year in a row, as the BattleWings drop to (0-1) on the year. Next week the Coyotes travel to Amarillo Texas to take on the (0-1) Dusters, who lost the defending af2 champion Tulsa Talons 69-13.
The Coyotes first home game will be at Selland Arena on April 26th at 7:00pm and tickets are still available.
