BOARDMAN, OH. -Mahoning Valley Thunder WR/LB John Tackmann has been named the arenafootball2's U.S. Army Ironman of the week, as announced by the League Office on Tuesday.

Each week, the af2 League Office awards four players from the league for their efforts in the previous weekend's games. The awards are U.S. Army Ironman of the Week, The Schutt Offensive Player of the Week, The ADT Defensive Player of the Week, and The Cutters Catch of the Week.

Tackmann, a rookie from Winona State started at Jack Linebacker and saw spot duty as a Quarterback in Saturday's 59-33 season opening win over Albany. Tackmann also served as the team's place holder on all kick attempts. His six and a half tackles were tops amongst Thunder defenders and his five rushing attempts went for a team leading 25 yards. Most impressively, Tackmann found the end zone on three of his five carries. His three scores were the most rushing touchdowns of any player in the league.

THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE HOLD:

"We've known since day one that John could play this game at a high level. Saturday night he was all over the field and the rest of the team fed off his energy throughout. His versatility is his biggest strength, we're able to move him all around the field and create match up problems for the opposition, those players are hard to find."
