Oakland Roots News Release
The USL Championship and Oakland Roots announced today the decision to postpone the games on July 14th and 17th against Phoenix Rising and Tacoma Defiance, respectively, due to several members of the club's covered person list testing positive for COVID-19.
The decision was made in accordance with the USL's health and safety protocols. The affected individuals from Oakland Roots have been immediately isolated at home, and are beginning the process of recovering. All CDC, Alameda County, and USL health and safety protocols have been followed throughout the season.
Roots has held discussions with the USL and the other teams regarding rescheduling these fixtures and have rescheduled for the following dates:
Oakland Roots vs. Phoenix Rising: August 25th, 2021 at Las Positas College
Oakland Roots vs. Tacoma Defiance: September 15th, 2021 at Las Positas College
Tickets for both games will be honored for future rescheduled dates, or can be refunded by emailing tickets@rootssc.com. In the meantime we are continuing with the work to have our new playing surface ready in time to return to play at Laney on July 31st.
"This is obviously a difficult situation for all of us. However the priority right now is to make sure our people and our community are healthy and safe" said Roots Technical Director and Head Coach Jordan Ferrell.
"The entire organization put in a ton of work to get us out in front of our fans again and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the team. We've definitely faced more challenges than we expected to start this season but part of representing Oakland is how you respond to adversity and the whole organization is looking forward to getting back to life at Laney as soon as it's safe for everyone to do so."
