MONTREAL ¬" The Montreal Impact unveiled Tuesday its regular season schedule in the North American Soccer League (NASL). The Impact will kick off the 18th season in club history on April 9 in Tampa Bay and will play its home opener at Saputo Stadium on Saturday, April 23, again versus Tampa Bay FC.
Once again this year, the Impact will play the majority of its local regular season matches on the weekend. Seven matches will take place on a Saturday and four on a Sunday, while three other matches will take place on a Wednesday evening.
In 2011, Montreal will face Edmonton FC, the Puerto Rico Islanders, the Miami FC/Strikers 2011, Carolina, Tampa Bay FC, the Atlanta Silverbacks and the Minnesota Stars. Each team will play 28 matches, 14 at home and 14 on the road. Each club will face its seven opponents four times, twice at home and twice on the road.
The Impact will play Carolina, its rival from the semifinals in last year ¬â¢s playoffs, May 14 and September 11 in Montreal, as well as April 16 and July 3 in Cary.
Montreal will also play its first matches versus its new Canadian rivals, Edmonton FC, on June 4 and September 17 at Saputo Stadium, as well as May 1 and June 26, in Alberta.
The Impact ¬â¢s final season in North America ¬â¢s second division will conclude on September 24 versus the Silverbacks in Atlanta, a club that has rejoined the league after a two-season absence.
The top six teams in the standings will advance to the NASL playoffs. The top two clubs will earn a bye to the semifinal round, while the four other teams will face off in a one-game quarterfinal. The semifinals and final will be home-and-away aggregate goals series.
