IHL Weekly Honors For Week 23

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Muskegon left wing Dan Riedel has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Week, Fort Wayne defenseman Kevin Bertram has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, Kalamazoo defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Flint goaltender Eric Marvin has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 23rd, 2008.

Riedel wrapped up the week posting five points in three games played. He scored three goals and added two helpers to his totals, extending his point streak to nine games. In those nine games, he has totaled 14 points (9g, 5a). The 22-year-old Ann Arbor, Michigan native scored the game-winning goal in overtime Friday to push the Fury ahead of Port Huron. Riedel is fourth among rookies in scoring (44 pts.), third in goals (25) and second in game-winners with four.

Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Week include: Bloomington's Adam Edinger, Flint forward Mike Kinnie, Fort Wayne left wing Konstantin Shafranov, Kalamazoo center Ryan Markham and Port Huron left wing Jeff Zehr.

Bertram earns the weekly defensive honors for the first time this season after putting up five points last week (1g, 4a) and had a plus/minus rating of plus-six. He scored a goal Saturday night, his second of the season, on the Komets man-advantage, helping push Fort Wayne to a 6-2 victory over Flint. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native currently leads all IHL defenseman in penalty minutes (255) and is tied for first for shorthanded assists with two. Bertram also has the Komets fifth best plus/minus rating, sitting at plus-27.

Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Bloomington's Sam Miller, Flint's Nick Tuzzolino, Kalamazoo's Jamie Vanderveeken, Muskegon's Philippe Plante and Port Huron's Joe Markusen.

Vanderveeken wrapped up Week 23 of his rookie season scoring six points (2g, 4a) in four games played. He had a big night Saturday scoring another power play goal and dishing out two assists, which helped the K-Wings to a 4-2 victory over Bloomington. The 22-year-old Wallaceburg, Ontario native leads all defenseman in power play goals with eight. Vanderveeken is the K-Wings most productive defenseman with 29 points (13g, 16a) and has scored points in six of his last nine games.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington forward Brett Holmberg, Flint defenseman Brock Wilson, Fort Wayne right wing Luciano Aquino, Muskegon left wing Dan Riedel and Port Huron center Jereme Tendler.

Marvin becomes the first Flint General to earn the weekly goaltending honor. He posted a 1-1-0-0 record for the week, playing just over 129 minutes and making 57 saves. He only allowed five goals against, giving him a 2.32 goals against average and a .919 save percentage for the week. The 25-year-old Naperville, Illinois native has played in 46 of the 64 games the Generals have played so far this season. Marvin is currently first among IHL goaltenders in minutes played (2755:58) and saves (1231).

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Loic Lacasse, Fort Wayne's Kevin Reiter, Kalamazoo's Jeff Reynaert, Muskegon's Clayton Pool and Port Huron's Larry Sterling.
