IHL names weekly award winners

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Kalamazoo defenseman Rod Aldoff has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Muskegon center Maxime Lincourt has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Kalamazoo goaltender Jason Tapp has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 21st, 2008.

Aldoff becomes the first defenseman to earn the Pepsi Player of the Week honors this season. He wrapped up the week posting five points in four games with a plus-6 rating. He recorded his first professional hat trick Saturday in the K-Wings 6-3 win over Bloomington, scoring the three goals on just three shots. The 37-year-old Lethbridge, Alberta native is the K-Wings most productive defenseman notching in five goals and dishing out 16 assists (21 points) on the season. Aldoff's 21 points ranks him third among IHL defenseman in scoring.

Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Jon Booras, Flint forward Jan Jas, Fort Wayne center Leo Thomas, Muskegon right wing Chad Costello and Port Huron left wing Jeff Zehr.

Lincourt put up four points in two games played last week, notching in one goal and dishing out three assists. Both games played this week by were multi-point games for the 'Jacks rookie center, scoring two points per game. He scored the game-winning goal Sunday in Muskegon's 6-4 win at Port Huron. The 21-year-old Montreal, Quebec native is currently second among IHL rookies in scoring with 22 points (10g, 12a). Lincourt is on a three-game point streak, scoring two goals and three assists during the stretch.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington left wing Adam Tomkow, Flint right wing Zach Pearson, Fort Wayne defenseman Brandon Warner, Kalamazoo defenseman Rob Jarvis and Port Huron defenseman Paul Holder.

Tapp had another dominate week between the pipes for the K-Wings, posting a 3-0-0-0 record, a 2.67 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. He allowed eight goals against in three games played this week, making a total of 78 saves. The 30-year-old Kelowna, British Columbia native has won 11 of his last 12 starts for Kalamazoo. Tapp is currently ranked first among active IHL goaltenders in wins (13), save percentage (.903) and is tied for the lead in saves with Bloomington's Scott Fankhouser (537).

Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Scott Fankhouser, Flint's Bill Zaniboni, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Isaac Reichmuth and Port Huron's Kevin Desfosses.
