Icehawks And K-Wings Enter Holiday Break On Top
December 22, 2008 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release
ROCHESTER, MI--- With games on hold until after the day after Christmas, the Port Huron Icehawks and Kalamazoo Wings both enter the holiday week tied for first place atop the IHL standings. Despite losing to Muskegon on Sunday, the Icehawks held their ground in the standings after being in sole possession of first place last week. However, this weekend Port Huron lost rookie goaltender Kevin Desfosses, who decided to leave the team to pursue a college education. Desfosses was 6-3-0-0 and has recorded two shutouts, leading all IHL goaltenders in that category.
Kalamazoo remains one of the hottest teams in the IHL, winning 14 of their last 17 games. Goaltender Jason Tapp has been dominate between the pipes for the K-Wings winning 11 of his last 12 starts. The K-Wings tied Muskegon for an IHL season-high seven-game home winning streak on Saturday, recording a 6-3 victory over Bloomington. The K-Wings will look to take possession of the longest home winning streak when they return to Wings Stadium on New Year's Eve to face-off against the Lumberjacks.
Bloomington right wing Don Parsons continues his quest to become the all-time goal scoring leader. Parsons inched closer to the record, scoring his 676th career goal and the PrairieThunder's lone goal Thursday in Flint. The goal leaves him just one shy of tying former Flint head coach Kevin Kerr (677). Bloomington continues the last leg of their four game road trip Friday in Fort Wayne before returning home for the next two games.
