
IHL Announces Weekly Honors For Week Two

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Port Huron right wing Cory Stillman has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Dayton forward Mike Vaskivuo has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Bloomington goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 25th, 2009.
Stillman completed the week recording three goals and dishing out two assists in three games played. He registered the league's second hat trick of season, marking the second consecutive game in which a Port Huron player scored three goals (Mike Kinnie vs. Fort Wayne). He scored two even strength and one power play goal Friday against Flint and dished out two assists the following night in Flint, going plus-three for the week. The 26-year old Lindsay, Ontario native is currently tied for first among the Icehawks in scoring with six points (3 goals, 3 assists).
Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center Ryan Finnerty, Dayton defenseman Greg Labenski, Flint forward Jamie Schaafsma, Fort Wayne forward Matt Syroczynski, Muskegon right wing David Rohlfs and Quad City center Mike Zbriger.
Vaskivuo wrapped up the second week of his rookie season scoring two goals and having one assist in three games played. He assisted on the game-winning goal Friday and helped seal the first win of the season for the Gems, scoring an empty net tally, pushing Dayton to a 7-5 victory over Muskegon. Vaskivuo also scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Gems just 51 seconds into the third period, helping seal Dayton's first win on home ice at Hara Arena. The 23- year-old West Palm Beach, Florida native is currently tied for third in scoring on the Gems roster with four points (3 goals, 1 assist) after the first five games.
Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington left wing Adam Tomkow, Flint forward John Mori, Fort Wayne right wing Kaleigh Schrock, Muskegon left wing Matt Robertson and Quad City right wing Sal Peralta.
Colaiacovo completed the week with a 1-1-0-0 record, earning the IHL's first shutout of the season Saturday for the PrairieThunder's home opener. He turned aside all 26 shots he faced from the Gems to earn the PrairieThunder's third shutout in the team's four year history. The 26-year-old Etobicoke, Ontario native finished the week with a 1.00 goals against average and a .967 save per- centage, only allowing two goals against over two games. Colaiacovo joins Dayton's Ryan Mior and Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo as the only three goaltenders in the IHL to play at least four games so far this season.
Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Dayton's Ryan Mior, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo, Port Huron's Larry Sterling and Quad City's Sebastien Laplante.
