IGUANAS LOOK TO KEEP DIVISION TITLE HOPES ALIVE
March 15, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Antonio Iguanas News Release
Radio: KKYX-680 AM with pre-game scheduled to begin at 7:00
The Iguanas and Bats will meet for the final time during the regular season tonight at the Ice House. The game has many implications including a division title and a preview of a first round playoff match-up. So far this season, the Iguanas are 3-4-2 versus the Bats.
The teams post-seasons have already been determined as they will square off next Friday, March 22nd in the first game of a best-of-five playoff showdown. The game will be at Freeman Coliseum with game two of the series scheduled for Austin on the following night. The only thing left to be determined in the series is games 3-5 with home ice yet to be determined.
Coming into tonight's game, the Ice Bats have a three-point lead over the Iguanas and can clinch the Southeast Division title tonight with a win. A victory for the Iguanas keeps them alive for the division crown.
San Antonio is coming off a 3-2 loss last Tuesday night in Odessa. The loss was their first regulation loss since February 12th in Fort Worth. On home ice, the Iguanas are without a regulation loss since December 22nd versus Indianapolis, a stretch that has seen them go 13-0-2. Austin is coming off a shootout win on Wednesday night versus Corpus Christi. Austin is currently finishing up their season-ending 13-game road trip that has seen them go 5-3-2 so far.
San Antonio's newest addition Russell Hogue has made a great first impression by notching five points (1-4-5) in three games. He has also re-charged linemates Jim Lawrence (four points in last two games) and Ken Richardson (goals in each of the last three games).
Austin has one of the most feared offenses in the league with three players with 80 plus points. Only one other player in the league was eclipsed the 80 point plateau. For the Bats, Brett Seguin currently leads the league in scoring with 90 points, while Dan Price and Gerald Tallaire are third and fourth in the league respectively.
After tonight's game, the Iguanas head to Corpus Christi for one final match-up with the Ice Rays tomorrow evening and Austin heads north to face the Fort Worth Brahmas.
