(Southfield, Mich., January 9, 2008) - The Detroit Ignition (9-4) will host the Chicago Storm (9-4) Friday night at Compuware Arena in a battle for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

January 11, 2008: Detroit Ignition (9-4) vs. Chicago Storm (9-4)
The Detroit Ignition and Chicago storm will battle for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League on Friday, January 11 at Compuware Arena. The two clubs last met on December 22, when the Ignition pummeled the Storm 25-7 at Sears Center Arena. The Storm are led by former Ignition player Carlos "Chile" Farias, who has scored 31 points so far this season.
LAST WEEK'S OUTINGS:
January 4, 2008: Ignition, 10, Cougars, 20 - The Detroit Ignition were defeated 20-10 by the California Cougars in front of the 15th consecutive sell-out crowd at Compuware Arena Friday night. Despite the defeat, Detroit holds on to their share of first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.
California midfielder Brian Farber scored the game's first points at 6:22 in the first quarter with a two-point shot off an assist from Naldo. Ignition forward and reigning MISL MVP Jamar Beasely responded with two points for Detroit at 11:21 in the first.
Semir Mesanovic scored his first of three goals on the night at 11:29 in the second quarter to give the Cougars a two-point lead. Ignition defender Jonathan Greenfield tied the teams up at four-all with his 25th MISL career goal at 12:32 in the second.
Droo Callahan would go on to score a hat trick on the night with three two-point goals for the Ignition, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Cougars who won 20-10.
January 5, 2008: Ignition, 21, Ironmen, 12 - The Detroit Ignition (9-4) defeated the expansion New Jersey Ironmen (8-5) 21-12 Saturday night at the Prudential Center. Coming into the match, the clubs were part of a four-way tie for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.
The Ironmen struck first as Mateus dos Anjos notched an unassisted two-point goal at 4:54 in the first quarter. Ignition defender Droo Callahan tied the clubs up at two-all with an unassisted two-point goal at 6:21 in the second quarter. With less than three minutes to play in the half, both Federico Moojen and Dan Antoniuk scored two-point goals for the Ironmen to give New Jersey a four-point lead.
At 2:12 in the third quarter Mauricio Salles, a former Ignition player, scored a two-point goal for the Ironmen. Matt Johnson ignited things for Detroit thirty seconds later with an unassisted two-point goal at 2:46. Less than a minute later, Ricardinho added another two points for the Ignition with an unassisted goal of his own.
New Jersey defender Matt Maher notched a two-point score at 4:35 in the third to put the home team up two. Callahan quickly responded for the Ignition with a two-point goal at 7:12 off an assist from Ricardinho. At 10:41, Callahan would score his third goal of the match, an unassisted two-point score. The goal gave the Ignition captain his second hat trick on the weekend, with the first coming last night against the California Cougars. Ricardinho and Ryan Mack would close out the third quarter for the Ignition with a pair of two-point goals, giving Detroit a 14-10 lead.
Goran Vasic cut the Ignition's lead to two at 8:25 in the fourth quarter, but Doug Rice swiftly scored two more points for Detroit at 9:39. Mack notched his second goal of the night at 12:03, an unassisted three-point score. Rice would score the final two-points of the match at 13:30 to bring the final score to 21-12.
