Last Action

STORM 18, IGNITION 4 (3-11-07) - The Detroit Ignition offense struggled as the team registered its worst defeat in club history at the hands of the Chicago Storm. The game-winning, two-point goal was tallied by Mark Ughy just 4:16 into the second quarter of play as a well balanced Storm attack saw four players finish the game with two goals apiece. Sanaldo minded the net for the Ignition and was credited with the loss before an injury forced him out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Goalkeeper: Sanaldo - 19 Shots Faced, 12 Saves, 14 Points Against

Upcoming Games

The Blast, winners of eight straight, come to Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI on Friday, March 16 to battle the Ignition in another possible playoff preview. The magic number for the Ignition remains at two, consisting of any combination of Detroit wins and Milwaukee Wave losses equaling two, moving the first-year club into the playoffs. The Ignition-Blast contest will be the sixth and final regular season meeting between the clubs. Detroit holds the series lead 4-1, including a 10-6 Ignition victory at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore on January 27 in the last meeting between these two clubs. Despite having a season decimated by injuries to some of their top players, the Blast sit atop the MISL standings after registering an 8-6 victory over the California Cougars for their eighth consecutive win.

Blast Players to Watch:

Sagu - The veteran netminder leads the League in points against average (9.66) and save percentage (.757) while leading his club to 12 of their 15 victories. Sagu has allowed just 84 goals this season.

Carlos Garcia - Originally selected by the Detroit Ignition in last June's MISL Expansion Draft, Garcia was traded back to Baltimore for a draft selection that would eventually net the Ignition forward Mike Apple. A native of Cali, Columbia, Garcia has posted a career-high 33 points and 12 goals this season.

Stat of the Week:

In the Ignition's 18-4 loss at the hands of Chicago, the Storm went 5-for-5 on the power play and slipped past Detroit as the League's top power play unit. The special teams failures also caused the Ignition to no longer boast the League's top penalty kill unit as well with Philadelphia assuming that role.
