Upcoming Games
The Ignition heads to Chicago on Sunday, March 11 to battle the Chicago Storm in a possible playoff preview. If the season were to end today, these two clubs would go head-to-head in a best of three games MISL semifinals series. Going into the weekend, the magic number for the Ignition is two consisting of any combination of Detroit wins and Milwaukee Wave losses equaling two, moving the first-year club into the playoffs. This will be the fifth meeting of the season between these two clubs with the Ignition claiming the last three contest. Detroit defeated the Storm 16-10 on Saturday, February 17 and a 24-14 on Friday, January 5. The Ignition registered an 11-7 on Sunday, December 17 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL. Chicago denied Detroit, 9-7, at the Sears Centre on Saturday, December 2 in the first- ever contest between the two clubs.
Storm Players to Watch:
Jim Larkin - The veteran netminder has allowed just 89 goals all season while allowing an average of 11.29 points per game. Larkin allowed just ten points in a 20-10 victory over the California Cougars on March 1 during his last outing while bringing his save percentage for the season to a respectable .690.
Stephen Armstrong - This Birkenhead, England native leads the Storm in goals scored with 17 thus far this season. One of the MISL's top rookie forwards, Armstrong has shown throughout the season that he will continue to improve with his transition from the outdoor game to indoor. Armstrong played in the MLS from 2001-2005 and spent one year in the USL First Division before joining the Storm prior to the 2006-07 campaign.
Stat of the Week:
Despite an 0-for-5 performance with the man-advantage on Sunday against the Milwaukee Wave, Detroit still boasts the League's top power play unit with a 50.0% success rate.
