Detroit Ignition News Release

(Southfield, Mich., February 12, 2007) - After a weekend off, the Ignition holds steady at third place in the Major Indoor Soccer League standings, just one game behind the first-place Philadelphia KiXX and one-half game behind the second-place Milwaukee Wave. This weekend Detroit plays host to the Chicago Storm on Saturday, February 17 as the two clubs face each other for first the time since a 24-14 Ignition victory on Friday, January 5. Game time for Saturday is slated for a 7:35 pm ET start at Compuware Sports Arena and will be broadcast live on Comcast Local.

IGNITION RECORD:

Road: 5-6

Upcoming Games

Detroit hosts the Chicago Storm on Saturday, February 17 at Compuware Sports Arena at 7:35 pm ET. Chicago's 9-9 record places the team fifth in the MISL Standings. Chicago has established the League's second-best power play unit behind Detroit but continues to struggle offensively, averaging just 11.0 points per game. They bolster one of the MISL's most well-balanced attacks with four players on the current roster having tallied 30 or more points. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these two clubs with the Ignition taking the last two with a 24-14 win on Friday, January 5 after defeating the Storm 11-7 on Sunday, December 17 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL. Chicago denied Detroit, 9-7, at the Sears Centre on Saturday, December 2 in the first-ever contest between the two clubs.

Storm Players to Watch:

John Ball - Learning a new offense is always difficult but it appears the transition for John Ball has been smoother than expected. In his seven games with the Storm since being traded from the California, Ball has two two-point goals and four assists while learning a very different system.

Stephen Armstrong - This Birkenhead, England native leads the Storm in goals scored with 15 thus far this season. One of the League's most dynamic rookies, Armstrong has shown throughout the season that he will continue to improve with his transition from the outdoor game to indoor. Armstrong played in the MLS from 2001-2005 and spent one year in the USL First Division before joining the Storm prior to the 2006-07 campaign.

Stat of the Week:

In the Ignition's nine games at Compuware Sports Arena this season, the first-year club has posted five sellouts including each of the last two home contests.
