February 12, 2007 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Philadelphia KiXX News Release
Philadelphia, PA, February 12, 2007 - The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that three members of the Philadelphia KiXX received a weekly accolade for the seven-day period ending February 11, marking the first time this season in which the club swept the three awards. Forward John Barry Nusum was named the League's Offensive Player-of-the-Week, Philadelphia native Pat Morris received the Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor, and veteran netminder Peter Pappas was named the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Week.
Nusum, the MISL's Rookie of the Year in 2005, receives his first weekly nomination of the season and the second of his three-year career after posting a hat trick (three goals) for six points versus the California Cougars on February 7. The 25-year-old forward connected on two-point scores in the first, third and fourth quarters with his second tally of the matinee proving to be the game winner. Bermuda's 2004 Male Athlete of the Year now ranks third on the team in points (29), goals (12), and leads the team with three game-winning goals.
Morris continues to establish himself as one of the League's premier defenders both on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. The Philadelphia University product connected on a pair of goals for five points and registered one block in the team's 19-12 victory versus the visiting California Cougars on February 7. To date this season, he has recorded 20 points and 19 blocks (1st team). A four-time All-Star and All-League selection, all consecutively, Morris has recorded more than 250 goals and 400 blocks in his eight-year career and was named the 2004-05 MISL Defender of the Year after posting a League-high 93 blocks and 43 points (22 goals, 21 assists) in 36 games. With this week's distinction, he has now received three POW honors this season (seven-day periods ending November 13, December 18, and January 22) and 13 times overall. Morris has also received a pair of Player-of-the-Month accolades.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Pappas recorded his 10th win of the season, stopping eight of the 14 shots he faced for a 19-12 win versus the California Cougars on February 7. The seven-time All-Star and seven-time All-League selection currently ranks second in the MISL in wins, points against average (10.31), and minutes played (1070:39). This week's honor is his third weekly distinction of the season; Pappas also earned weekly recognition for the seven-day periods ending December 3 and December 31 as well as two consecutive Goalkeeper-of-the-Month accolades for his play throughout December and January. Overall, he has received POW honors 27 times and 11 Player-of-the-Month honors.
Teammates Don D'Ambra (Offensive), Genoni Martinez (Defensive), and Edgar Bartolomeu (Offensive) also received weekly recognition this season. D'Ambra received the Offensive POW honors for the seven-day periods ending December 11 and December 31. Martinez was named the League's Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the seven-day period ending January 14, while Bartolomeu received Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors for the seven-day period ending November 26.
