
Ignition Take Out First-Place Milwaukee In Overtime

(MILWAUKEE - January 10, 2009) - In a game that was tied at six different times, the Detroit Ignition (2-2) brought first-place Milwaukee's (3-1)undefeated streak to a halt with a 14-12 overtime win. The victory puts the Ignition back at .500 going into tomorrow's home game against the Chicago Storm (2-4).
The Ignition netted the first score of the game, a two-pointer from Tino Scicluna half-way through the first quarter. Wave rookie Marco Terminesi scored four points for the home team with a pair of two-point goals to close out the quarter.
Ignition captain Kyt Selaidopoulos found the back of the net just under five minutes into the second quarter, tying the clubs at up 4. Midfielder Marco Fontana added another two for the Wave at 8:49, but Drew Crawford put a two-pointer past Milwaukee keeper Marcel Feenstra to tie the teams up at 6-all at halftime.
Scicluna scored his second goal of the night at the start of the third quarter, a two-point goal that gave Detroit a 8-6 lead. With seven minutes to play in the third, veteran Wave defender Troy Dusosky tied the teams up again on a Milwaukee power play. With 11 seconds to play, midfielder Vahid Assadpour capitalized on Detroit's first power-play opportunity of the night, burying a two-point goal to give the Ignition their third lead of the match.
Termenisi notched his third goal of the night with just under eight minutes to play, tying the game up for the fifth time. With roughly six minutes left, the Ignition went on a power play after Feenstra was pulled from the net after getting called for a handball. Detroit immediately capitalized, as midfielder Ryan Mack buried a two-pointer into the Milwaukee net. The Ignition's lead was short-lived though, as J.P. Rodrigues netted another two-points for the short-handed Milwaukee team to tie the clubs up at 12-all, and send the game into overtime.
Defender Josh Rife scored the game-winning goal for the Ignition two minutes into the extra period. Danny Waltman registered 19 saves in the net for Detroit.
The Ignition return home tomorrow to take on the Chicago Storm (2-4) at Compuware Arena. Kick off is at 4:35 pm.
