Ignition sails to 14-6 victory over Wave

(Southfield, Mich., January 12, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition (8-6) defeated the Milwaukee Wave (6-7), 14-6, in front of 2,969 at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI on Friday. Forward Mike Apple registered his first game-winning goal of the season, a three-pointer, 9:31 into the third quarter of play to give the Ignition its third consecutive victory and first-ever over the Wave. The Ignition's offense was led by forward Mike Apple and midfielder Novi Marojevic who combined for seven points in a well-balanced Detroit attack.

After a scoreless opening frame, forward Tyrone Gordon put the Wave on the board at 4:20 of the second quarter with a two-pointer, his second of the season, to give Milwaukee the 2-0 advantage at the end of the first half.

The Ignition responded just 42 seconds into the third quarter with a two-point score from midfielder Novi Marojevic, off a pass from forward Jamar Beasley, to tie the game 2-2. Detroit captured the 4-2 advantage off a two-point score from rookie forward Worteh Sampson at 3:15. Ignition midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos deflected in a lengthy shot from forward Carlos Farias to put the first-year club up 6-2 at 4:58. The Wave cut the lead in half off a two-point tally at 8:34 from Gordon, his second goal of the night, leaving the Ignition with the 6-4 advantage. Forward Mike Apple secured the Ignition control, burying a three-pointer into the back of the net at 9:31 to extend the Detroit lead to 9-4 at the end of the third quarter.

Former League MVP and Wave forward Greg Howes put a shot past Ignition goalkeeper Sanaldo for a sixth attacker goal at 11:01 of the fourth quarter to put the Ignition lead at just 9-6. A power play goal at 12:45 from Ignition forward Jamar Beasley put the club's advantage at 11-6. A three-point goal against the sixth attacker from December's MISL Defender of the Month and Ignition back-liner Jonathan Greenfield, completed the contest's scoring and gave Detroit the 14-6 victory

The game was the Ignition's first victory over the Milwaukee Wave... Sanaldo minded the Ignition net for the first time this season and was credited with his third consecutive win ...
