
Ignition Nab First Place with Third Straight Win

(Plymouth, Mich., - January 18, 2009) - With a ten-point win over their rivals, the Detroit Ignition (4-2) took sole position of first place in the Xtreme Soccer League. The Ignition's offense was firing on all cylinders as seven different players scored against the visiting Milwaukee Wave (4-3).
Detroit wasted no time getting on the scoreboard - the team put up a 6-0 lead in the first quarter with goals from Vahid Assadpour, Drew Ducker and Leo Gibson. The game's second stanza saw the Wave notch five points, three of which came off the foot of defender J.P. Rodrigues with his third three-point goal of the season. Detroit was able to keep their lead in place, going into halftime with a 10-5 advantage thanks to goals from Gibson and Miki Djerisilo.
The two teams traded goals in the third quarter, but Milwaukee's momentum slowed with a three-point dagger from Ignition defender Nate Craft. The Ignition kept on running as the game came to a close, as Drew Crawford, Worteh Sampson and Tino Scicluna netted seven points between them to bring the final score at 24-14.
The Ignition return to action next Sunday, January 25 when they host the New Jersey Ironmen (3-3) at 4:35 pm.
