
Ignition flooded by Storm in 18-13 loss

(Southfield, Mich., April 1, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition (18-12) finished its inaugural regular season unable to secure first place in the standings with an 18-13 loss at the hands of the Chicago Storm (17-12) in front of a sellout crowd of 3,694 at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI on Sunday. The game-winning goal as registered by Chicago forward Mark Ughy, one of his five scores on the night, at 7:21 of the fourth quarter of play. The first round of the Major Indoor Soccer League Championship Series will begin for the Ignition on Saturday, April 14 against a yet to be determined opponent. Detroit will host the second game of that series at Compuware Sports Arena on Sunday, April 15 at 4:35 pm ET with the second game being broadcast live on Comcast Local.
Chicago forward Mark Ughy beat Ignition netminder Sanaldo with a two-point goal to hand the Storm the early 2-0 advantage at 2:50 of the opening quarter of play. Stephen Armstrong extended the Storm lead to 4-0 with a two-point power play goal at 8:13. Ughy scored his second two-point goal of the game on a penalty kick following a Bill Sedgewick penalty in the goalie area at 9:44 to bring the Storm advantage to 6-0 at the end of the opening frame.
After a scoreless second quarter, forward Worteh Sampson put the Ignition on the board with a two-pointer at the 2:31 mark of the third quarter as Detroit cut the Storm lead to 6-2. Ughy responded with his third goal of the night, a three-pointer at 3:43 as the Storm extended their advantage to 9-2. Midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos connected on a two-point goal off a textbook give and go from Carlos Farias at 6:07 as the Ignition continued to trail the Storm by a score of 9-4. Chicago responded again with a two-point goal from midfielder Andy Rosenband at 6:30 as the Storm continued to control the contest with an 11-4 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Sampson registered his second two-point goal of the game at 1:34 of the fourth quarter to bring the Storm lead down to 11-6. Ughy responded again with a two-point goal at 4:01 as the Storm held to its lead at 13-6. Ignition forward Jamar Beasley registered a two-pointer, his 40th goal of the season, to bring the Chicago lead to 13-8 at 6:36. With his fifth goal of the game, Ughy beat Sanaldo for two-points at 7:21 as the Storm advantage grew to 15-8. John Ball put a long three-point goal into the net at 11:50 against the sixth attacker to put the Chicago lead at 18-8. The Ignition responded with a two-point goal from Hewerton at 12:47 to bring Chicago lead to 18-10. Carlos Farias registered a three-point goal at 14:32 to finish the game with an 18-13 victory.

Ignition goalkeeper Sanaldo (13-11) was credited with the loss in net...Sampson scored a team-leading two goals on Sunday for the second consecutive game...Detroit will host Game Two of the MISL Semifinal on Sunday, April 15.
