
Ignition drops second straight with loss on the road

(Southfield, Mich.) - The Detroit Ignition (11-9) fell to the California Cougars (6-14), 21-14 at Stockton Arena in Stockton, CA. The game-winning goal, a two-pointer, was registered by Cougars forward Aaron Susi at the 8:30 mark of the fourth quarter. The loss, coupled with a Milwaukee Wave victory, caused the Ignition to slip to third place in the Major Indoor Soccer League standings and just one-half game out of first live. On Saturday, February 17, Detroit will host the Chicago Storm at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI. Game-time is slated for 7:35 pm ET.
The Cougars struck first with a two-point goal from Vicente Figueroa just 53 seconds into the opening frame of play to give the Cougars an early 2-0 advantage. Jamar Beasley put the Ignition on the board with a two-point goal at the 11:30 mark to tie the contest at 2-2. Ricardinho put the Ignition in control with a two-point goal at 13:33, putting Detroit in front 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Beasley buried his second two-point goal of the game at 2:27 of the second quarter, extending the Detroit advantage to 6-2. The Cougars' Jorge Martinez put one past Ignition netminder Sanaldo at 6:40 to cut the Detroit advantage down to 6-4. Aaron Susi tied the game 6-6 for the Cougars going into halftime with a two-point goal at 9:04.
Cougars forward Susi registered his second goal of the night, a two-pointer, at 10:38 to give California the 8-6 advantage in the third quarter. Rookie forward Worteh Sampson brought the game back to an even score of 8-8 at the end of the third quarter with a two-point goal at 10:52.
Susi rounded out the hat trick with a two-pointer just 33 seconds into the fourth quarter to put California in the lead at 10-8. Enrique Tovar kept the momentum shift going with a three-point goal at 1:19 to give California the 13-8 advantage. Rookie forward Mauricio Salles registered a two-point goal at 5:34 to bring the Cougars lead down to 13-10. Miodrag Djerisilo buried one into the back of the net for two-points at 6:51 to bring the California lead to just one point at 13-12. Susi registered his fourth goal of the contest with a two-point score at 8:30 to extend the Cougars advantage to 15-12. California's Eduardo Velez stretched the Cougars lead to 17-12 with a two-point goal at 9:13. Ricardinho registered his second goal of the night with a two-point goal at 10:40, bringing the California advantage to just 17-14. Tovar responded for the Cougars with a two-point goal at 11:05, bringing the California lead to 19-14. Brian Farber capped off the California offense with a two-point goal at 13:22, giving California the 21-14 victory.
